Cash Gifting Review

It has become almost impossible to look for home business opportunities with out getting bombarded by offers to join “Cash Gifting Programs” (CGP). Part of the commitment made by the National Home Business Academy is to evaluate opportunities and provide a honest opinion. After a substantial amount of research the NHBA has come to the conclusion that cash gifting programs are something to be avoided. There are a large number of these programs and this article does not discuss any program in particular it is a review of the entire business model/concept. We are not lawyers, but looking at how CGP’s operate it sets off all the red flags of an illegal activity. The programs look like nothing more than illegal pyramid schemes. The arguments made by those who are pro-CGP do not settle the nerves and actually increase the skepticism that these are legitimate.

Red Flag #1) Nothing moves but money.

The classic definition of a pyramid scheme is that no product is sold and members are paid for the sole activity of recruiting. In CGP’s there are no products and the various programs and promoters are very happy about that. This is a major problem. In illegal pyramids there is a mathematical certainty that the bottom 80-85% of those who participate will lose. The promoters try to use technical detail arguments trying to work around these facts but the math is the math. In a legitimate network marketing business participants even those on the very last to get in have the opportunity to sell actual product and build a successful business.

Red Flag #2) The money you receive is tax free!

Not really. The promoters seem to love to quote and tell you exactly where in the tax code you can find the information that makes CGP ok. Reviewing the section of code the promoters neglect to mention is the can be no expectation that the person giving the gift will receive anything in return. If you look at any of the websites promoting CGP it is very clear that there are high expectations that you will make money from this activity. The code that is quoted is clearly describing a situation where family and friends give cash gifts to each other not these large scale programs. Reality the IRS will be the last people to go after you but hey it was the taxman who took down “Scarface” Al Capone.

Red Flag #3) “Our lawyers have found a loophole”

The promoters say that their lawyers have found a loophole in the law and that by having everyone who joins the CGP sign a paper saying they have no expectations of getting anything in return for joining the program makes it legal. Again not a lawyer, but when compared to all the marketing materials used to entice, I have serious doubts that any judge or jury is dumb enough to believe that the people had no expectations of making money, signed paper or not.

Red Flag #4) There is a history of prosecution

CGP’s have a long history of getting shut down and the participants being prosecuted. There are cases in almost every state where CGP’s have been shut down and the people in the organization have been prosecuted not just the people at the top. Based on past prosecutions simply joining the program can make you criminally liable.

Red Flag #5) Secret Meetings

The meetings and conference calls where the promoters solicit gifts are by invitation only. Granted part of it could be attributed to the illusion of exclusivity, but that seems like a stretch. More likely is that they want to prevent any law enforcement or disgruntled participants to have easy access to the sales pitch.

Red Flag #6 Banking Tips

There are numerous reports of promoters giving directions on how to handle the cash to not arouse suspicion when you deposit in your bank. Banks have strict guidelines and sophisticated systems to identify suspicious banking activities. These are in place to find illegal activities such as money laundering, drug dealing supporting terrorism and other criminal activities. No one wants to be examined for their banking actions if you are not doing anything illegal that shouldn’t be a problem. This may just be a rumor, but the idea circulating makes one believe the idea is grounded in need.

A Challenge to Cash Gifting Promoters

The promoters of the various CGP are very admit that what they are doing is completely legitimate and to that we say great. If you are a promoter in the US who wants to prove your program is 100% legal take everything to the local district attorney and state attorney general. If you can produce a verifiable review that the program is not against the law we will post them here.  If you are thinking about joining a cash gifting program the NHBA highly discourages it and believes they are against the law.

The 4 Core Principles of Business

Most businesses fail long before they open the doors to the first customer. These failures come from not understanding the 4 core principles that are the foundation to every successful business.

1. A Large And Growing Market

Businesses live and die based on the number of customers they have and the ability to grow that number. The larger the market, the greater the potential there is for finding customers. The second part is the market needs to be expanding. Growing markets are increasing opportunities. Every day the market grows that is potential growth for the company. In contrast contracting markets have less opportunity every day. Imagine it is 1905 and you are given the choice of partnering with the best buggy whip maker of the day or Henry Ford. Looking back the choice is obvious. Horse drawn carriages were on their way out, a contracting market and cars were an expanding market.

2. Unique And Consumable Products

This is one of the biggest failures in modern business is the “me too” effect. If your product is indistinguishable from the competition you are dealing with a commodity product and will be forced to compete on price alone. Competing on price you have no control of your market and will eventually be under cut. In a price war no one wins. A good modern example of this is the computer industry. Look at the major players in personal computing Dell, HP and Apple. Dell and HP are forced to compete on price. Exclude some cosmetic differences their products are essentially identical. Apple on the other hand offer a product that is unique from the other two and competes on quality. This leads to much different expectations from customers. Buyers expect to be able to buy a decent HP or Dell laptop for under $800 and react poorly to the idea of spending $1200-1500 for a better model. At Apple you can’t buy a laptop for under $999 and most end up with a better equipped model for $1200-1500. Uniqueness has allowed Apple to gain market share and maintain pricing control. Consumable is the second half of the product equation. If a product is not consumable your customer has no reason to become a repeat customer. Nike is a company that takes the product mix to an art form. Nike develops proprietary performance technologies (unique) and puts them into shoes that wear out from use (consumable).

3. Trends

A trend is the most powerful force in business. A trend is a shift in the needs or wants of a large group of people. For the last 60 years the “Baby Boomers” have been the dominant trend setters. As a generation the boomers have set major trends that last almost two decades. The real estate boom and bust of the 1970′s and 1980′s is directly attributed to the boomers moving out of their parents houses and buying homes of their own. When the major wave of first home buyers dried up the market crashed. I have a suspicion that when the smoke clears on the most recent real estate bubble the rise in prices that started in the back half of the 1990′s will be attributed to the “Echo Boom” (kids of the baby boomers) moving out of their parents houses and buying homes of their own. These trends are important because catching the trend on the way up ordinary people make extraordinary incomes. Those who get in on the back side of the trend end up working harder for less every day.

4. Employ Others To Work For You

Money is made one of two ways. People at work or money at work. A business that is limited to the owners working hours has limited opportunity for success. Business don’t hire people to be swell, they are hired to expand the productivity of the business. Lets say you own a business. If you are the only one working that is how productive the business is. Lets say you work 40 hours a week. Now you higher Jim and he also works 40 hours a week. As the owner of the business you now have 80 hours of production a week, 40 from you and 40 from Jim. Jim worked out so well you hire John and Pat to each work 40 hours a week. Your business is up to 160 hours a week of production but your own efforts only represent a small portion of that time.

Business of all sizes all over the world have succeeded or failed because of these 4 core principles of business. Ignore them at your own peril or embrace them and position your self for success. How does your business or the business you are planning compare to these principles?

Home Business or Home Job

With the launch of NationalHomeBusinessAcademy.com a large part of the marketing effort is online. To do the job properly researching the competition is necessary. Identifying the key search terms to build the strategy around. In scouting the competition one thing is becoming abundantly clear. The sites ranking high for many of the key terms are offering home based jobs.

There is a huge difference between a business and a job. The same rules apply for a traditional corporations and home. At face value many people will not see the difference when looking at the ideas presented. Here it is… does it work with out you there? If you have to be there it is a job. A while back I was reading a success story about living within your means. Truly I applaud the efforts of the families profiled. There is one that sticks out in my mind. A couple where the wife worked a traditional 9 to 5 and the husband was a teacher. In the summer the husband had a lawn mowing business to supplement his teacher salary. Do you see the problem yet? His efforts were not having a lasting impact. As soon as school started again in the fall he shut down and that stream of income dried up, because he wasn’t building a business he was succeeding at owning his own job. At no point did he have a business. A business only exists when it will make money with out you.

Any time you enter a new venture there is a time commitment required to get the business and the systems that run the business operational. After that point the owner should no longer be necessary for the day to day operations.

Here it is in black and white. If you want a business not a job that you own network marketing is the best option for a majority of the population. In MLM the annoying stuff is taken care of for you…

  • No Product/Service to Develop
  • No Inventories
  • No Employees
  • Sales (commissions) are tracked and presented in reports for you

A MLM business positions you to focus on the things that really matter to the success of all businesses, finding customers and finding other people to find customers. What to you want, a home based job where you can look at your boss in the mirror or do you want to build a home business that creates the ability to choose the lifestyle you want to live?

The Magic of Hard Work

There are geniuses who wallow in poverty and talented people never make anything of them selves.

But… Every day there are ordinary and average people coming out on top.

Why? It’s simple. They worker harder than everyone else.

Remember…

With only hard work you can beat 50% of your competition. Most of your competitors will never push themselves hard enough, far enough or long enough to win.

Another 40% can be beaten by taking care of your mind and body.

That last 10%, well they are what we call the winners of this world and you are welcome to join the club. Do you think you have what it takes?

Success Principles

How do we define success?

Dictionary.com defines success as “the attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like.” That definition is very accurate way to describe people that are considered “successful”. Allow me to continue that idea with the 10 Principles of how to become successful.

  1. Have a Dream. No matter how big or small have a fixed idea in your head of what you are trying to achieve.
  2. Plan Of Action. Set long term and short term goals. Setting and hitting your goals lets you know you are on the right path to your dreams. Make your short term goals milestones to the attainment of your longer term goals. Write your goals down and review them every day.
  3. Maintain Focus. The information age is filled with distractions. Never let yourself become distracted if you want to succeed.
  4. Ask For Help. The greatest accomplishments in the history of man were never the result of a single person. Seek out the knowledge from those who have come before you. There are no bonus checks issued because you refused to ask for help.
  5. Be Disciplined. When you become distracted from your goals you must refocus yourself. No one wants you to become successful more than you.
  6. Take Action. Leaders don’t wait for things to happen, they make things happen. Be aggressive, when you see what you want make the move and go for it.
  7. Self Confidence. No one will believe you if you don’t believe in your self. Know in your heart of hearts that when things don’t look good you have the ability to turn it around. Minor changes in your attitude can make huge changes in your results.
  8. Move to Uncharted Territory. Through out history there have always been people who respond to any new idea with “that’s impossible!” These are the people who believed that man would never be able fly, go into outer space or land on the moon. Ignore these people. Just because something has never been done before does not mean it can not be done. Greatness is the result of making the impossible possible.
  9. Maintain Your Priorities. Commit your time, energy and money to making your plan succeed but do not forget to take time for your family, friends and the things that are important to you. You don’t live alone in your dreams, do you?
  10. Love What You Are Doing. You must love what you are doing to live a life where you are healthy, wealthy and make your dreams come true.
